Most people suffer from back pain at some point in their life. In fact, a British Chiropractic Associations survey found that around 80% of all people will suffer from back pain during their lifetime and an amazing 36% of back pain sufferers have been in pain for more than 10 years.
There are many causes of back pain. Typically they relate to poor posture whilst bending over a computer keyboard, lifting heavy weights, trauma from vehicle accidents and sleeping in the foetal position. Pain also arises from subluxations and subluxation-related problems such as muscle spasm and abnormal joint mechanics. There may be inflammation created by the subluxation itself.
Conventional medicine will often recommend back surgery as the primary treatment offered for this condition. As far back as 1994, a study showed that the rate of back surgery in the United States was 40% higher than in any other country, and five times higher than in England or Scotland. Other studies, however, have shown that chiropractic care can provide significant relief in many cases of back pain.
Whilst back surgery may be an option it should be noted that this can be risky and may not relieve either the pain or the problem. Chiropractic treatment at the Applecross Chiropractic Centre may well be the better option. Our registered chiropractors are trained to diagnose and treat the cause using specific adjustments to both the back and neck.
